Recipe: Simple Muesli Shaker Jar
Sometimes we get hungry and want to be able to eat something immediately without having to prepare or bake. I understand that – it happens to me all the time!
This is when we are in most danger of reaching for a processed food – be it a cereal, a biscuit or a ‘healthy’ snack bar.
What is a ‘processed’ food?
Here’s a simple rule of thumb – if it has an ingredients list with more than 3 ingredients then it’s a processed food. Those ingredients have been combined in a factory by someone other than you. The process used to combine them is unlike what you would do at home. And read the ingredients list for that healthy snack bar – it’s got at least 20 things in it – and most of them are sugar!
So here’s one for those of you (like me!) that love a bit of cereal – and not just for breakfast either. Here’s my simple muesli shaker jar. Make it in 5 seconds – and gives you an immediate tasty muesli straight away!
Simple Muesli Shaker Jar
Makes 3 servings
A clean jam jar (or any container of similar size)
Porridge Oats
Chopped dates
Cacao Nibs
Fill the jar to about two thirds full with porridge oats. Add chopped dates and about a tablespoon of cacao nibs. The jar should be about seven-eighths full to allow for shaking.
Put the lid on the jar and shake thoroughly. Serve straight away with really cold milk.
