Healthy Life: I ❤ wine. But am I drinking…
Is wine making me fat? I can put on half a stone of fat in a year just from drinking wine regularly.
I’m not going to lie. I found going cold turkey on wine (all booze but particularly wine) for the month of January pretty hard. Leading up to Christmas there was always an excuse for a glass of wine. Hard day at work? Nice drop at dinner? Well it is Friday? I didn’t have a problem with having a drink or two when I go out (I don’t go out often enough to feel guilty about that) but drinking at home, not that much each night but nearly every night….It had become a habit.
And that is why I needed to do Dry January AND why it was hard.
But now onto the good news. We’re now nearing the end of February and I have loved being able to drink again – I’m not going to deny it. But what’s interesting is that I’m drinking a lot less often. Saturday night – yes. One Friday. And nothing else.
My sleep patterns, my mood and my waistline are all thanking me for this change.
I really notice that I am sleeping more deeply, meaning I wake up less tired and that has an impact on what I eat as well. Less tired = less cravings. It’s as simple as that.
I have also been reading about wine and weight gain. It makes depressing reading, let me tell you…
Half a stone of fat just from drinking wine. This makes me sad. But it is true. I tend to know the exact calories in my breakfast, lunch and dinner, but I don’t think about the calories in wine. 1 large glass of white wine is 190 calories. You can see how easy it is to put on weight when you’re drinking regularly.
Drink Less, Drink Better
So now we come to part two of my “drink less, drink better” plan and that comes with the help of a new wine on the block called “Slim Wine” with only 55 calories per glass.
A lovely lady called Miriam sent me 2 bottles of the Slim “Super Sparkling” (full disclosure it was a freebie – yay!)
Picture the scene. Friday night, long but good week, and I hadn’t had a drink since New Year’s Eve. The Slimline Wine (it’s got no sugar and no carbs people) was chilling in the fridge. It was time to celebrate that Friday feeling with a glass of bubbly. AND IT WAS AMAZING!
It tasted like a really delicious dry sparkling prosecco. Perfect. I had two glasses. I felt giggly but not guilty and woke up the next morning hangover free.
