Diet & Health: Nitrite Free Bacon is here at…
Is bacon safe? In recent years, I have moved away from recipes that use processed meat – that’s bacon, ham, salami, chorizo etc. We still eat bacon occasionally – who can resist a fry-up with a hangover? – but I’ve cut most of the processed meat out of my family’s diet.
This is reflected in the recipes I share – there are still recipes on here that use bacon etc but there haven’t been any new ones recently. Instead I’ve stuck to unprocessed red meat and chicken.
The problem with bacon
Apart from the high fat and salt content in these foods, the most important reason to steer clear of the processed meat is the cancer risk caused by nitrites. According to WHO statistics, eating processed meat daily could increase your risk of some forms of cancer considerably.

So I am excited to hear about Naked Bacon which is being launched this week! It looks amazing and so much more natural than any we have seen before. I have also read that ham is following shortly and I really hope we’ll get chorizo soon… that would be awesome.
The technology behind Naked Bacon is new and exciting and the result of years of research. I for one am so excited and will be trying it as soon as I can get my hands on it.
